Central Park is considered to be both the greatest example of urban planning in American history as well as a masterpiece of 19th century art and landscape architecture. Whether your interest is art, photography, celebrities, architecture, music, Hollywood movies, pop culture, food, or recreation-- Central Park has something for everyone. It should be a “must-see” on your NYC itinerary.
Over 320 feature Hollywood films have been shot here on location, making Central the single most popular “on location” movie spot in the world. And it’s no coincidence- Central Park was carefully designed to be beautiful. Immerse yourself in film trivia during a walking tour devoted to Central Park’s TV and movie sites. Or take a tour with a professional photographer for Instagram-worthy shots of the park’s many streams, ponds, bridges, and hills unfolding around every curve.
I love the Park. I like to walk on the East River, too, up at Gracie Square, but Central Park is my favorite part of the city.
- Brooke Astor
The park is considered the personal "backyard" of the many local New Yorkers and many celebrities who go to escape urban life. Activities in Central Park include free concerts and live performances by the New York Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera, as well as contemporary music and theatrical performances at Summer Stage and at Shakespeare in the Park. Winter activities include ice skating on the famed Wollman Rink.
